The short version
Live Layer uses a small number of cookies. Most are strictly necessary to sign you in and keep your session working. A few are analytics, and you can turn those off. We don't use advertising cookies.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. They let us keep you signed in, remember your preferences, and understand how the app is being used. Some cookies are essential; others are optional.
2. Cookies we use
Strictly necessary
Needed for the app to function. You can’t opt out of these and keep a working account.
| Cookie | Purpose | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| __session | Keeps you signed in | Clerk (our auth provider) |
| __client_uat | Tracks the last time you authenticated | Clerk |
| livelayer.org | Stores your active organization | Live Layer |
| livelayer.experience | Short-lived auth token for published experiences | Live Layer |
Functional
Improve your experience. You can disable these in your browser settings if you prefer.
| Cookie | Purpose | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| livelayer.landing-agent | Remembers the avatar you customized on the homepage | Live Layer |
| livelayer.visitor-id | Device fingerprint for visitor recognition (only on sites that enable the Tracker) | Live Layer / FingerprintJS |
Analytics
Help us understand what’s working. You can opt out via the consent banner on your first visit or your browser’s Do Not Track setting.
| Cookie | Purpose | Set by |
|---|---|---|
| _vercel_* | Deployment analytics | Vercel |
| livelayer.analytics | Aggregate product usage, per-org | Live Layer |
3. Cookies we do not use
- Advertising or retargeting cookies
- Social network tracking (Facebook Pixel, LinkedIn Insight, etc.)
- Cross-site tracking of any kind
4. Cookies on sites that embed Live Layer
If you installed our widget on your own site, only the strictly necessary session cookies are set when a visitor starts a conversation with the avatar. If you enabled the LiveLayer Tracker, an additional visitor-id cookie is set on your domain to help the avatar recognize returning visitors. You can disable the Tracker per agent in your dashboard.
5. Managing cookies
- Most browsers let you block or delete cookies. Check your browser’s help docs.
- Disabling strictly-necessary cookies will sign you out and break parts of the app.
- Analytics cookies can be disabled without affecting functionality.
6. Changes
We’ll update this page if we add or remove cookies. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change.
